Gentlemen,
You are cordially invited for the ride of your life. After years of
talking about a club road trip, arrangements have finally been set. On
Saturday, April 18th, an SPC-rented van will drive you to Portland for a
wonderful day of sightseeing. We plan on arriving in the Rose City at 11:00
a.m., where our first stop will be Rich's Cigar Store. For the uninitiated
nor' westerner, Rich's is the pipeman's Mecca. By far, the best smoke shop
this side of western cordillera, Rich's is a great place to buy an exquisite
pipe-from corn cobs to Dunhills; have a custom-tobacco mixture prepared for
you by one of the great tobacco master blenders in the country, Steve Books,
and an opportunity to peruse perhaps the best international magazine and
newsstand. Rich's also offers an extensive range of fine cigars and is an
authorized Davidoff merchant.
When we're all good and ready, we'll break for a lunch at one of the many
great downtown eateries Portland is known for. After a relaxing break and
post-dinner cigar or pipe, we'll board the motor coach at 2:00 p.m. for a
quick trip to the Clear Creek Distillery, where proprietor Steve McCarthy
will lead us on 60-minute personal tour of his much-acclaimed house of
hooch. And let us not forget the tasting bar! Steve's McCarthy single-malt
whiskey has consistently received the highest ratings for his
Lagavulin-style dram.
The day will end with a 3:30 p.m. return trip to Tacoma. I hope all can
come for what I'm sure will be a smashing day trip with your fellow club
pipemen.
